The Ministry of Culture and Tourism withdrew from the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival after the documentary “Law Provision” was included in the festival program.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced that the movie “Law Rule”, which tells the struggle of two dismissed public employees, was withdrawn from the Golden Orange Film Festival after it was included in the festival program. In the statement made by the Ministry, “At the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, which is one of the most important events in the field of Turkish cinema and is in the process of being organized for the 60th time, there is a documentary called ‘Law Provision’ in the documentary competition section. “It is extremely sad that in such an important festival, the power of art is used to make propaganda for the FETO terrorist organization through the perception of victimization.”
In the statement, “Using art as an element of provocation will not be part of the effort. For this reason, we have withdrawn from the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.”
What happened?
At the Golden Orange Film Festival, the documentary titled “Law Provision”, which tells the struggle of two civil servants who were dismissed from their duties with the Statutory Decree, was excluded from the competition selection.
Nejla Demirci, the director of the documentary, said, “The reason for the removal of the film is deception” and that the responsibility belongs to the Golden Orange Film Festival.
Reacting to the censorship, 20 jury members announced that they were withdrawing from the festival until the film was included in the selection again.
After the withdrawal of 20 jury members from the festival due to censorship, the directors and producers of the films in the National Feature Film Competition, National Documentary Film Competition and National Short Film Competition decided to withdraw their films from the program.
In the statement made by the festival, “With the announcement made on 22.09.2023, we decided to take the film back to the competition selection, as it has been documented by us that the trial process regarding the person in the documentary film “Law Provision”, which was removed from the 60th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival National Documentary Film Competition selection, is not continuing. It was said that it was given.
