The dengbêj tradition, which forms the foundations of oral culture and enables Kurdish literature to come to this day, is resisting against time. Dengbêj Mihemedê Mûşi, who is one of those who maintain the dengbêj culture, takes us on a long journey between the past and the future with his voice.
The dengbêjs, who convey their love, wars, fights and often even their daily lives with the phrases they say, also earn their living by traveling from village to village. While the Dengbêjs earn their living, they continue to spread the legends they carry with their voices to the whole geography.
Our paths cross by chance with Dengbêj Mihemedê Muşî, who lives in the Bulanık district of Muş. We came across him while chatting in a coffee shop in Bulanık, where we went to follow the news. Dengbêjism is quite common in Bulanik. It is an important event for us to come across such a voice in a street coffee shop. First of all, we have a short conversation with him and he tells us that he is 67 years old. Dengbêj Mihemed is from Xelê Village of Bulanik.
From Şakiro to Mihemedê Mûşi…
There is no one on the streets who does not know Dengbêj Mihemed, and suddenly other dengbêjs come to our table. Each of them has a different tone, a different pain, a different joy… When the Dengbêjs start to sing, their voices echo in the Plain of Muş. People listening to them in the same coffee house in which they mostly play chess.
The dengbêjs we are happy to meet are setting up a sofa for us in the coffee house at the entrance of the passage where they met. It is a tradition among dengbêjs, and no one can prevent the greatest dengbêjî. That’s why they leave the floor to Dengbêj Mihemedê Mûşi. Dengbêj Mihemed begins by singing a dengbej song from Dengbêjan Shakiro.
The continuation of the news is in our video news…
