The Suruç Massacre has entered its 7th year and Şükran Şen, mother of Yunus Emre Şen, who lost his life in the massacre, continues to seek justice: “In every case, the murderer is not found and the case is not justified.”

Yunus Emre Şen, whom his friends call “Kekê” and remembered with his smiling face, was one of the 33 young people who lost their lives in the bomb attack of ISIS on 20 July 2015 in the Suruç district of Urfa. Speaking to Serhat News on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Suruç Massacre, Şükran Şen says that there is no progress in the cases, but she will not give up her struggle despite this: “I feel nothing but pain in every case. Because in every case, the murderer does not come out and the case is not justified.”

‘My son did not accept the injustice done to the Kurds’

Saying that she did not know that Yunus Emre was going to Kobane, Şen states that he studied at a university in Ankara: “He always said to me, ‘I will study for you’. He told my father and my other son that he was going to Kobane. My son was affected by the Roboski Massacre. He could not accept the killing of so many people and wanted to do something for his people. He did not accept the injustice done to the Kurds. I demand that the case be concluded as soon as possible and that the murderer be revealed as soon as possible.”

‘Perpetrators should be tried with the harshest punishment’

Saying that they will follow the case for those who lost their lives in the Suruç massacre, Şen says that she has participated in all the lawsuits that have been heard and that she will participate in the lawsuits that will be heard, and that she will continue to defend her son’s rights. He reiterates that Yunus Emre is sensitive to the problems faced by the Kurds: “My son was murdered. None of them were to blame. He loved his people, defended them and wanted to do something for them. I knew that the young people would not end well because we are not a lucky people. I knew they would be killed or arrested. Emre was telling me that the state gave permission for this event to be held and that I should not be afraid. Because of this, I want the perpetrators to be tried with the heaviest penalty.”
